According to the report, he invoked the Fifth Amendment in his opening statement and then pleaded the Fifth 111 times during questioning about his actions tied to the COVID pandemic and statements made to the American people. For years, Americans were told to accept mandates, shutdowns, school closures, and shifting guidance as settled wisdom. Republican Senators Demand Accountability
GOP senators pressed Fauci hard during the hearing and demanded legal consequences. Sen. Moreno angrily confronted him over decisions made during the pandemic, reportedly asking, “who the f*ck do you think you were for doing that?” Sen. Josh Hawley of Missouri also blasted Fauci over his finances, saying, “During the pandemic you got rich. You got rich while Americans were dying.” Hawley stated that Fauci’s net worth is over $12 million and that he received over $1 million in cash awards during COVID. Those are serious claims, and they cut straight to the anger many families still feel after losing jobs, businesses, classroom time, and trust.
Reports Say Fauci Vented After the Hearing
The New York Post reported that Fauci was later overheard venting to his wife after taking criticism from Republican lawmakers, including allegedly dropping an F-bomb over the experience. That detail may be colorful, but the bigger story is not his private frustration. The bigger story is that Americans watched powerful officials make sweeping decisions during COVID, then watched many of those same officials avoid direct answers when accountability finally knocked. If public servants expect the country to follow orders in a crisis, they should also expect tough questions when the dust settles.
