Gunfire Hits Home Of Raffensperger Aide
More than 30 shots were fired shortly after midnight early Thursday morning at the Atlanta home of Robert Sinners, communications director for Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger. The shooting happened on Wellington Street SW, where surveillance video reportedly showed three suspects firing toward the home. Sinners was asleep in bed next to his fiancée at the time, which is the sort of midnight wake-up call no decent person should ever face. Thankfully, nobody was injured, even after bullets struck the residence. Sinners told WSB-TV, “We are still confused why 30 shots hit our home last night,” and also called it the “Scariest thing we’ve ever had happen to us.”
Police Chase Ends With Two Arrests
According to Fox 5 Atlanta, witnesses flagged down officers and reported seeing two men firing guns toward the property. Police later spotted two men matching the witness descriptions walking nearby. When officers approached, both men ran, because apparently sticking around to explain the situation was not on the evening’s agenda. Officers chased them on foot and detained them after a short pursuit. Authorities identified the suspects in custody as Gregory O’Neal Vaughn, 26, and Jermaine Darcel Howard, 29. Officers also recovered a firearm and multiple rounds of ammunition from Howard. Police said both men face multiple pending charges, though the specific charges were not disclosed in the source report.
A Third Suspect Remains At Large
Police also pursued the suspects and exchanged gunfire with them, according to the report. Two suspects have been arrested, while a third suspect remains on the loose. The motive for the shooting is still unclear. Fox 5 Atlanta reported that preliminary evidence shows the shooting was not politically motivated. That detail matters, especially when the home belongs to a state elections official’s communications director, a job that naturally draws public attention in Georgia.
