Are we really about to put girls and women at a disadvantage because of someone else’s entitlement? It’s time to stop allowing transgender people to take away the opportunities of girls and women in sports.
Riley Gaines, a former NCAA swimmer, recently spoke out against trans athlete Lia Thomas on the America Reports podcast. Riley called out Thomas for using “gaslighting” and “emotional blackmail” in her podcast appearance. Thomas used the podcast to attack people who opposed transgender women competing in women’s sports, calling it “half-support.”
Riley went on to say that Thomas’s teammates had approached her with heartbreaking stories of Thomas and the University trying to silence their voices and suppress their feelings of discomfort with having to compete against a transgender woman. Riley described Thomas’s comments as “sheer entitlement and selfishness” and a disregard for women.
Thomas also accused her teammates at the University of Pennsylvania of being “anti-feminist” during the podcast. What Thomas is doing is wrong and unfair. It’s time to put an end to the idea that a transgender person can take away the opportunities of girls and women.
Recently, the Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty released a letter demanding answers from the Sun Prairie Area School District after a March 3 incident where a transgender woman reportedly took a shower with four 14-year-old girls. Riley reacted to this incident saying “These are 14-year-old girls. They should never have to be in a position where they are seeing male genitalia without giving their consent. It’s mind blowing and it’s becoming more and more common.”
We need to protect the rights of girls and women in sports. It’s not fair to put them at a disadvantage because of someone else’s entitlement. We should not be forcing girls to compete against biological men in sports. Girls and women should have the right to compete in sports without feeling like they are at a disadvantage. It is time to stand up and protect their rights.
