Biden Diagnosed with COVID-19 – Suspicions Timing?

In a surprising turn of events, President Joe Biden has tested positive for COVID-19, adding to the existing turmoil within the Democratic Party. This raises questions about whether this is merely unfortunate timing or if there’s something more at play. Could it be that the President is using this as a strategic exit strategy? Amidst increasing pressure from his party to postpone the virtual nomination vote, this diagnosis might trigger a series of events leading to Biden stepping down. The timing indeed seems questionable. Let’s delve into the details and uncover the truth behind these developments.

Biden’s COVID Diagnosis: A Genuine Health Concern or A Convenient Alibi?

On Wednesday, it was confirmed by the White House that President Biden has contracted COVID-19. The news was first announced by Janet Murguia, president of UnidosUS, at an event in Las Vegas where Biden was scheduled to speak. His speech was delayed by an hour and a half before this announcement came out.

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre informed that Biden tested positive after his first event in Las Vegas. She added that he is experiencing mild symptoms, is vaccinated and boosted, and will self-isolate in Delaware. She assured that he would continue performing his duties fully while in isolation.

However, it’s worth pondering upon the fact that Biden maintained a full schedule in Nevada this week despite rising concerns about his health and capabilities. This sudden positive test following a disappointing debate performance in late June seems somewhat convenient. He last tested positive for COVID in 2022. Is there a recurring pattern here?

Increasing Demands to Postpone Biden’s Nomination

Besides the COVID diagnosis, there is a growing faction within the House Democrats who believe that Biden is too politically compromised to defeat Donald Trump in November. These Democrats are urging the Democratic National Committee (DNC) to delay the virtual nomination vote. This sets the stage for a potential intraparty conflict against Biden’s supporters, who are discreetly advocating for fast-tracking the president’s formal nomination.

The Democrats had planned to finalize Biden’s nomination process before August 7, much ahead of the Chicago convention next month. However, Rep. Jared Huffman, a progressive Democrat from California, expressed his concerns about the virtual roll call vote to CNN, calling it a “terrible idea” and a “dumb thing.”

Huffman stated, “If the election were held today, he would get crushed. We have got to do something about it.” There is also a draft letter circulating among House Democrats urging the party to slow down the process. This is indicative of the party’s deep-seated anxieties about Biden remaining their front-runner.

Democrats’ Urgent Push for An Early Nomination

While some Democrats are advocating for a slower process, Biden’s allies are pressing for an expedited virtual roll call process. According to six Democratic officials privy to these discussions, two key Democratic committees are scheduled to meet this Friday and Sunday to discuss the exact timeline for delegates across the country to start casting their votes. The earliest voting could commence would be after the second meeting on Sunday.

If voting begins Sunday or soon thereafter, it would indicate an aggressive timeline that is already attracting scrutiny from other Democrats. They want Biden to acknowledge his challenges and step aside. One House Democrat expressed disbelief at the hastened nomination process and compared it to leading Democrats into a house fire with water bottles.

The DNC virtual roll call process was initially implemented to bypass a ballot issue in Ohio. Although lawmakers in Ohio have since resolved the issue, the DNC is persisting with the virtual roll call. For Democrats concerned that Biden will lose to Trump and drag the Democratic ticket down with him, time is running out to make their case to the president, his family, and his advisers.

Intraparty Conflict: Democrats Divided

The intense discussions have exposed a potentially messy and unseemly clash among different factions of the Democratic Party. This is happening while Republicans are uniting around their new ticket at the GOP convention in Milwaukee.

Former DNC chairs Donna Brazile, Howard Dean, and Terry McAuliffe have endorsed the early nomination process. They sent a letter to DNC members stating that a virtual process is necessary to ensure that the Democratic nominees for President and Vice President appear on the ballot in every state without legal challenge.

However, Brazile, Dean, and McAuliffe opined that the virtual roll call “need not be immediate” but should conclude before August 7 to circumvent potential legal issues related to Biden’s ballot access in Ohio.

Concluding Thoughts

So, what’s really happening here? Biden’s sudden COVID diagnosis, increasing calls from his party to delay his nomination, and the rush for an early virtual roll call all point towards chaos within the Democratic Party. Are they finally acknowledging that Biden might not be the ideal candidate to face Trump in November? Or is this just another ploy to cover up Biden’s declining health and capabilities?

It’s evident that the Democratic Party is in turmoil, and Biden’s allies are desperate to keep him as the front-runner. But with more Democrats voicing their concerns about the virtual roll call and demanding a delay, it appears that fissures are beginning to emerge. Will Biden step down? Only time will tell.
