Talk show host Glenn Beck is raising the alarm on Big Tech‘s latest tactics to suppress free speech in the lead-up to the 2024 election. During a recent episode of The Glenn Beck Show, Beck expressed his concerns about the censorship efforts of companies like Apple, Facebook, and YouTube, as well as activist groups like the Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH).
Beck warned his viewers and listeners that these entities were working together to silence dissenting ideas just in time for the upcoming election. He called out social media giants such as Facebook for implementing shadowbanning as a company policy.
Shadowbanning is a tactic where a company allows users to post content but limits the reach of that content, effectively censoring it. Beck likened this tactic to a digital ghetto, where dissenting voices are confined and silenced.
Further cementing his stance against Big Tech, Beck criticized Facebook’s recent announcement that political content would no longer be recommended on Instagram or Threads. Instead, users would have to manually adjust their settings to view political content. This control would eventually be rolled out on Facebook as well, giving the company even more power to control what content users see.
But Beck’s main target was the CCDH, an activist organization that released a report condemning YouTube for not censoring so-called “New Denial” of climate change on its platform.
Beck elaborated on what the CCDH considers to be “New Denial”: “anything that claims global heating is beneficial or harmless, that the climate solutions proposed by the global elite may not work, or that the climate science and movement cannot be trusted.” The CCDH specifically called out Beck and his network, The Blaze, in their report, demanding that YouTube demonetize any content that spreads “New Denial.”
Beck sees this as a direct attack on free speech and believes that the CCDH’s ultimate goal is to control the narrative surrounding climate change and other key political issues. He warned, “this is a threat” and that the CCDH’s actions could lead to the censorship of any content that goes against their agenda.
Beck’s warnings against Big Tech and activist groups like the CCDH echo the sentiments of many conservative voices who believe that companies such as Facebook and YouTube are actively working to silence conservative voices.
As the 2024 election draws nearer, it is becoming increasingly clear that the battle for free speech and the right to express dissenting opinions will only intensify.
