New York City Mayor Eric Adams is under fire for his recent statement to residents. In an attempt to downplay the rising crime rates in the city, Adams urged New Yorkers to ignore what they see and perceive and instead believe that crime is actually decreasing. This statement comes in the wake of alarming reports and video evidence of a frightening crime wave that has escalated during Adams’ stint as mayor.
During a news conference on Wednesday, Adams boldly claimed that there is no need to say that there is an increase in subway crime, because that is not the reality. He challenged his constituents to see beyond the seeming increase and to lower their expectations when it comes to security in the city. This is not the first time that Adams has made such a statement; in 2022, he caused controversy by telling New Yorkers that their perception of crime is what has increased, not the actual crime rate.
Adams’ insistence on downplaying the alarming state of crime in New York City is alarming and out of touch with the reality that most people experience every day. His claims are even more incredulous considering that the New York Police Department (NYPD) has released statistics that supposedly show a decrease in overall crime, including subway crime. However, even if these statistics are accurate, this is hardly a noteworthy achievement for the mayor, as crime has been out of control in the city for some time now.
In fact, an internal NYPD document obtained by the New York Post revealed that crime has surged to levels that have not been seen in nearly two decades. The report shows a historic increase in assaults, reaching nearly 28,000 for the first time.

This is just the latest in a series of evidence that questions Adams’ claim of a decrease in crime rate. It proves that the victory lap he took at the end of 2023 was premature, and the early-year decrease in crime was short-lived.

Furthermore, the numbers reported by the NYPD do not tell the whole story. City Councilman Bob Holden, a Democrat, believes that the reported stats barely scratch the surface of what is happening in New York City. He often hears from storekeepers and constituents who have stopped reporting crimes because they have lost faith in the criminal justice system. This is a concerning situation that every New Yorker is forced to live with on a daily basis.

Adams’ attempts to dismiss the rising crime rate in New York City are tone-deaf and out of touch with the reality that people experience. The numbers and evidence show that crime is in fact increasing, and it is irresponsible to downplay this issue. It is essential for city officials to acknowledge and address the alarming state of crime in New York City before it spirals out of control.
This is what happens when criminals are running the government. Make sure to give the addresses of hochul and adams and everybody else to the illegals/criminals. It’s only fair.
