Georgia Senator Colton Moore found himself in a critical situation after attempting to enter the Georgia Capitol during a joint session on Thursday, leading to his arrest. Moore, whose entrance was barred from the House Chamber last year following his inflammatory comments about the deceased House Speaker David Ralston, made headlines again in a controversial showdown.
Video footage of the incident quickly went viral, showing the intense encounter as Moore tried to gain access to the state House chamber for Governor Kemp’s address. As he approached, the Georgia State Patrol informed him of his restriction due to his earlier expulsion. Nonetheless, Moore adamantly declared, “This is a joint session of the General Assembly. Your House rules do not apply,” and defiantly insisted, “I’m going into the chamber.” His attempt to force his way in was met with opposition, ultimately resulting in him being pushed to the ground and subsequently handcuffed by officers. This dramatic moment culminated in Moore being escorted away to Fulton County Jail, with potential charges still undisclosed.

Moore’s contentious relationship with some members of the legislative body can be traced back to last March. During a session that proposed naming a building at the University of North Georgia in honor of Ralston, Moore harshly criticized the motion, stating, “This body is about to memorialize, in my opinion, one of the most corrupt Georgia leaders that we are ever going to see in my lifetime.” This outburst, especially poignant with Ralston’s family present, drew condemnation from Jon Burns, the successor to Ralston as the state House Speaker. Burns decried what he termed Moore’s “some of the vilest that you can make about a good man” remarks, leading to Moore’s expulsion from the chamber.
Nevertheless, Moore interpreted his prohibition as not applicable to a joint session of the General Assembly, emboldening his attempt to breach the Capitol. In the escalation that followed, Moore was aggressively shoved to the ground before his apprehension by the Georgia State Patrol.

Subsequent to his arrest, Moore was transported to the Fulton County jail. However, the specifics of any charges against him remain undisclosed. Adding to his ordeal, Moore visited the hospital for a hand x-ray following what he described as an assault. Demonstrating resilience, Moore reassured his supporters, saying, “Thank you to all the patriots who have shown their support today. I have a Constitutional duty and will be back in the legislature tomorrow.”
