During Tuesday’s interview on CNN, while right-wing contributor Jonah Goldberg was criticize the anti-Semitic, pro-Hamas language used by extreme left protesters on college campuses, New York Times reporter Lulu Garcia-Navarro surprisingly came in to cut him off and even defended the protestors’ actions against police.
Host Kasie Hunt opened by interviewing Congressman Josh Gottheimer, a moderate Jewish Democrat from New Jersey about his recent visit to Columbia University. Gottheimer expressed his serious concern for Jewish students’ safety and even calling for the university administration to take further action. Then, Goldberg was asked to join in on the discussion.
Goldberg, a known conservative contributor on both CNN and Fox News, expressed his condemnation towards the anti-Semitic rhetoric used by far-left protestors on college campuses. In response, Garcia-Navarro immediately cut in and argued against the use of police against anti-Israel protesters.
She interrupted Goldberg mid-sentence, saying, “Excuse me, I’m so sorry.” When he continued, she spoke over him, exclaiming, “I’m sorry, but everyone –” trying to share her opposing view.
Goldberg, taken back by her interruption, continued, “If you are celebrating Hamas, you are pro-terrorist.” Garcia-Navarro responded by saying she was “not disputing” his statement. However, she then spun for left-wing student organizers by pointing out that not all Jewish students support Israel’s actions. She then went on to say, “there are selective quotes that are being taken not from students themselves – in the encampments in Columbia, they have said this – there are Jewish students who are actually part of this.”
Hunt then jumped in, trying to redirect the conversation towards the university’s responsibility in dealing with the protestors. But Garcia-Navarro continued, saying that the university’s decision to involve police only “inflamed” the situation and has now “spread” to other universities like Yale and New York University.
Goldberg was visibly puzzled by Garcia-Navarro’s defense of the protestors, saying, “I question the wisdom of having a double standard that says it’s okay to shout hateful pro-terrorist things at Jews.” He went on to criticize the left for their failure to condemn this behavior and noted that it is becoming a growing issue on college campuses.
Garcia-Navarro rebutted by saying, “No one is endorsing that,” to which Goldberg responded, “A lot of people are endorsing that.” The two went back and forth, with Goldberg ultimately concluding that universities and the Democratic party have a huge problem trying to handle this issue that they have created for themselves.
In summary, during Tuesday’s segment, Goldberg criticized the left’s double standard in allowing anti-Semitic rhetoric to go unchecked while condemning any criticism against other groups. He noted the growing problem on college campuses and called out the Democratic party for their failure to address it. Garcia-Navarro, on the other hand, defended the protestors and criticized the involvement of police, suggesting it only adds fuel to the fire.
These Leftists are anti-American & a real danger to the future of our country.
Why are they being called anti Israel protests? They are PRO terrorist riots. These college kids, who want us to pay their college loans need to be arrested and sent to live under Shria law for a year.
Okay then, don’t involve the police. Turn the university’s lawn system on full blast.
