In a recent appearance on CBS News’ “Face the Nation,” Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas claimed that the Biden administration is doing “everything” they can to combat migrant gangs in the U.S. However, his statement was quickly challenged by host Margaret Brennan as she brought up the case of Nasir Ahmad Tawhedi, an Afghan migrant who was arrested for allegedly planning a terrorist attack on Election Day.
Mayorkas, aWe are indeed doing everything we can to dismantle criminal gangs and transnational criminal organizations.” However, he failed to mention the specific case of Tawhedi, who entered the country through humanitarian parole during the Biden-Harris administration’s chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan.
Brennan pressed Mayorkas on the details of Tawhedi’s background and immigration status, specifically questioning if he was radicalized before coming to the U.S. Mayorkas, citing an ongoing prosecution, refused to disclose any information, but did mention that he hopes the public understands the challenges faced by the Department of Homeland Security.
When questioned further on the vetting process for Tawhedi and others like him, Mayorkas defended the agency’s methods, stating, “If we obtain information subsequently that suggests the individual could be of danger, we take appropriate law enforcement action.” However, it is concerning that Tawhedi was able to enter the country and apply for a special immigration visa without any red flags being raised by the vetting process.
The case of Tawhedi is just one example of the Biden-Harris administration’s failure to properly address the issue of illegal immigration. While the media may have praised the administration for their lower border apprehension numbers, it is important to note that they are still significantly higher than the numbers under the Trump administration. By the end of Trump’s term, there were around two million illegal border crossings, while the Biden administration has been averaging two million per year since taking office.
In addition, the Tren de Aragua gang, a Venezuelan group, has made headlines recently after taking over multiple apartment complexes in Aurora, Colorado. Despite initial claims by city officials that the issue was exaggerated, it was confirmed that ten gang members were living in the city and committing acts of violence against members of the migrant community.
It is clear that the Biden-Harris administration’s lax approach to illegal immigration has resulted in dangerous individuals entering the country and posing a threat to national security. The case of Tawhedi and the Tren de Aragua gang are just two examples of the consequences of their failure to properly secure our border and vet those seeking entry into the country.
It is disingenuous for Mayorkas to claim that the administration is doing “everything” to combat migrant gangs when cases like Tawhedi’s exist. The safety and security of American citizens should be the top priority, and it is clear that under the Biden-Harris administration, it is not.
President Trump’s tough stance on illegal immigration may have been harshly criticized by the media, but it was effective in lowering the number of border crossings and keeping dangerous individuals out of the country. It’s time for the current administration to take a page from Trump’s playbook and put the safety of Americans first.
myorkas is such a fricken liar that if the truth was sunshine, he’d be in the dark for the next 7 years…
He needs to be in a cell and to pay the people who lost their daughters and sons to the criminals who killed them because he was responsible for their being admitted to this country…
mayorkas is a filthy, nasty, rotten, man inside and out…GET HIM THE HELL OUT OF CONGRESS!!!!!!!
