The Biden administration has been under fire recently for its military recruiting tactics and it seems that Republican Governer Ron Desantis of Florida agrees. During remarks made in Bedford, New Hampshire, DeSantis remarked on the Biden administration’s decision to use a drag queen as a recruiting ambassador, “When I see them focusing on things like drag queens for recruiting, your like, this really has lost its way, and is it any wonder that recruiting is in the toilet, right now?”
The Navy had already lowered their standards due to difficulty finding volunteers, which included allowing those infected with HIV to serve overseas and in the officer corps, as well as allowing those who test positive for marijuana the opportunity to take a second drug test.
DeSantis, who served in Iraq and at Guantanamo Bay as a Navy judge advocate general, noted how prior to the Biden administration, recruitment was not an issue during the height of the global War on Terror in Iraq and Afghanistan. “It wasn’t a cup of tea, it wasn’t fun and yet people still wanted to join,” he said. “I think it’s because they understood you know what it means to be part of your country and stepping up, even in conflicts that weren’t going well, that that mattered.”
Clearly, DeSantis is not a fan of the Biden administration’s approach to military recruitment. It is evident that the administration’s attempts to appeal to woke agendas with tactics like using drag queens are considered misguided handling of recruitment.
Under the Biden administration, there seems to be a disconnect between the military and its mission to protect and serve the diverse range of citizens in the United States. The country’s military strength relies on a steady influx of intelligent, hardworking, and motivated men and women.
It is not helping when the only reason the Biden administration is supposedly appealing to these potential citizens is to fulfill their woke political agenda. Without clear direction and an understanding of its importance, military recruitment cannot be effective.
The Biden administration needs to review its recruitment strategies if they want to be taken seriously and be able to provide the citizens of this country with the best possible defense. Otherwise, it’s just a game of playing politics.
