Watch: Bret Baier Tried To Trip Trump Up But Failed Miserably

Bret Baier grilled former President Donald Trump Monday on why he hired “the best and most serious people,” since many of those he appointed are now running against him in the 2024 race for president.

Baier pointed to Trump’s administration alumni who are now vying for the Republican nomination, including Vice President Mike Pence and former Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley. Additionally, other former Trump appointees, such as Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, National Security Adviser John Bolton, and Attorney General Bill Barr have each said they will not support Trump in the next election.

“So why did you hire them?” Baier asked Trump.

“I hired 10 to 1 that were fantastic,” Trump responded. “We had a great economy. We had phenomenal people in charge of the economy. We had phenomenal people in the military. I’m not a fan of Milley and I’m not a fan of certain television people, but I knocked out ISIS, I defeated ISIS. They said Mattis, it would take three years and I don’t think we can do it. I did it in a period of like four weeks.”

“Don’t forget, for every one you say I had 10 that love us,” Trump added.

Baier pressed Trump further about his insistence on hiring only the most experienced people, and noted that of the “10 to 1” Trump hired, many are now running against him for the Republican nomination.

“Well, you say you have 10 good people,” Baier noted. “But people like Pence and Haley, former members of your administration, they’re running against you right now. So what do you make of that?”

Trump answered that for every one person who ran against him, he had nine more who supported him wholeheartedly.

“The nine that love me, they did a great job,” Trump said. “We had the best economy the world has ever seen. We had a phenomenal team. And I think the team that I had and the people that I put in charge were very smart and they were very responsible and they had wonderful records prior to joining us.”

Trump’s interview with Baier highlighted his penchant for hiring the “best and most serious people,” and the fact that those same people can now be competing against him, reveals the fluidity of politics. Trump did indicate he wasn’t surprised by the turn of events, but he seemed satisfied with the quality of people he championed during his term. He pointed to his success with eliminating ISIS as proof for his staff’s ability to successfully execute his orders and follow through on the promises made.

  • Baier is in way over his head going one on one with Trump. He was much more successful kissing Rumsfield’s ass to get where he is.

  • BB is a wuss. He probably thinks he has to be or he will get taken off the air like Bongino, Tucker, etc. Fox has got them all running scared.
That said, I do not know if I will vote Trump in the primary or not. He’s so childish with his verbal attacks on everyone!
