On Friday, CNN’s Scott Jennings spoke out in support of President Trump’s stance on the use of H-1B visas, amidst a heated online feud between technology industry leaders.
During an appearance on “The Lead with Jake Tapper,” Jennings pointed out the divide within the Republican Party on the issue, but expressed confidence in finding a solution. “I think there’s a way to work this out and solve it,” he said. “If you’re using the H-1B program to abuse it, that’s not fine.”
Jennings continued, specifically calling out Department of Government Efficiency co-head Vivek Ramaswamy for his remarks on the topic. “What Ramaswamy did yesterday…did anger a lot of people in the president’s coalition, and I think rightfully so,” he stated.
The disagreement began when Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy voiced differing opinions on the use of H-1B visas in the tech industry on X. Musk simply agreed with a user’s comment that limiting skilled immigration would hinder American innovation. However, Ramaswamy went further, criticizing American culture for valuing “mediocrity over excellence.” He argued that promoting the popular kids like the prom queen over the academic achievers like the math Olympiad champ would not lead to the best engineers.
Since Musk’s involvement in President Trump’s campaign, liberal media outlets have ramped up their attacks on the billionaire and his role in the administration. Democratic lawmakers, such as Rep. Rosa DeLauro of Connecticut, have taken the opportunity to criticize Musk, even referring to him as “President Musk” after he called out Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson’s original 1,574-page continuing resolution.
But Jennings remained staunch in his support for Trump’s stance on the H-1B visa program. “I think what a lot of people in the party want to do is eliminate the fraud in this H-1B program, retain the top engineering talent, and there’s a way to do this,” he argued.
At the end of all of this is a party that wants to illuminate loopholes that lead to the abuse of taxpayers’ funds. The media wants it to seem like the Republican party is at war with itself, when clearly that isn’t the case.
