In a shocking display of left-wing intolerance, a University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire professor violently assaulted a College Republicans voter information table on Tuesday, proving once again that liberals cannot handle opposing viewpoints without resorting to thuggish behavior. The professor, identified as José Felipe Alvergue, chair of the English department, stormed over to the conservative students, falsely accused them of violating election laws, and then flipped their table, sending voter materials flying across the sidewalk. The entire incident was captured on video, showing Alvergue’s unhinged meltdown before he cowardly walked away.
UWEC College Republicans Chair Tatiana Bobrowicz recounted the confrontation to WQOW-TV:
“We had a table set up for the election Tuesday when we were approached by a man. He asked why we were so close to the polling place. When I said we were past the 100-foot requirement, he told me ‘the time for this is over’ and flipped the table over.”
This blatant act of aggression underscores the hypocrisy of the left, which preaches “tolerance” but silences dissent through intimidation. While liberal professors like Alvergue demand “safe spaces” for their far-left ideologies, they have no problem physically attacking conservative students exercising their First Amendment rights.
UW-Eau Claire Interim Provost Michael Carney issued a weak statement in response, expressing vague “concern” while failing to condemn Alvergue’s actions outright:
“I am deeply concerned that our students’ peaceful effort to share information on campus on election day was disrupted. UW-Eau Claire strongly supports every person’s right to free speech and free expression…”
Yet, if this had been a leftist activist group disrupted by a conservative professor, the university would have immediately expelled the offender and issued a tearful apology about “systemic oppression.” Instead, Alvergue was merely placed on administrative leave—a slap on the wrist for what should be a fireable offense.
To add insult to injury, court records reveal that Alvergue has only been charged with disorderly conduct, a mere misdemeanor, with a laughable $295 bond and a court date set for May 7. If conservatives pulled this kind of stunt, they’d be facing felony hate crime charges and a media firestorm.

Where is the outrage from CNN, MSNBC, or The New York Times? If a conservative had attacked a Democrat table, it would be wall-to-wall coverage, with pundits shrieking about “right-wing extremism.” But since the perpetrator was a leftist academic, the media is dead silent, proving their bias yet again.

This incident is a microcosm of the left’s war on free speech.
