Alejandro Mayorkas reacted on live TV as news emerged Wednesday that House Republicans planned to begin impeachment proceedings against him. Mayorkas was appearing on the MSNBC show “Morning Joe,” and as his segment was ending, co-anchor Willie Geist informed him about a report stating that the House would be launching a full impeachment inquiry against him. Geist read from a story published by Punchbowl News, stating, “The House Homeland Security Committee is formally moving ahead with impeachment proceedings against you, with the hearing being held a week from today.”
Mayorkas maintained composure as he responded to the unexpected news. He began by discussing his current efforts to work with bipartisan senators to find legislative solutions to repair the broken immigration system. He then revealed that he had been on the Hill earlier that day, providing technical advice and working on solutions. Mayorkas made it clear that his focus is on problem-solving and that this is also the focus of the current administration.
Geist asked Mayorkas if he would cooperate with the hearings, to which he replied, “I most certainly will and I will continue to do my work as well.” Republican Rep. Mark Green Tennessee, chair of the House Homeland Security Committee, proclaimed that the panel had enough evidence to impeach Mayorkas, according to Punchbowl News. In a statement, Green shared, “Our investigation made clear that this crisis finds its foundation in Secretary Mayorkas’ decision-making and refusal to enforce the laws passed by Congress, and that his failure to fulfill his oath of office demands accountability.”
Green continued, “The bipartisan House vote in November to refer articles of impeachment to my Committee only served to highlight the importance of our taking up the impeachment process – which is what we will begin doing next Wednesday.”The impeachment process for a Cabinet official mirrors that of a president. The House must first vote for impeachment, which is essentially an indictment, followed by a trial in the Senate. However, with Democrats holding the majority in the Senate, the chances of removal from office for Mayorkas or any other Democrat are slim.
In October, history was made as the only Cabinet-level impeachment process in American history took place in 1876, targeting Secretary of War William Belknap, who ultimately resigned. Punchbowl News reported that the first impeachment hearing for Mayorkas has been scheduled for January 10th and is titled, “Havoc in the Heartland: How Secretary Mayorkas’ Failed Leadership Has Impacted the States.”
The impact of the current immigration crisis was seen on Monday as Republican Rep. Mike Flood of Nebraska spoke with KETV-TV in Omaha. He expressed concern, stating, “It’s turned every town in Nebraska into a border town. We’re seeing more fentanyl, we’re seeing more dangerous drugs. We’re seeing weapons. We’re seeing criminals that are making their way across the border when we don’t know who. 1.7 million of those getaways are there. They’ve avoided the U.S. Border Patrol, and they’re in our country.”
Green informed Fox News that the American people have been calling for an end to the unprecedented crisis at the Southwest border for almost three years. He also noted that citizens have been demanding accountability from Congress for those responsible. In response to the impeachment proceedings, the Department of Homeland Security issued a statement, calling the efforts of House Republicans “a baseless political exercise that has been rejected by members of both parties and already failed on a bipartisan vote,” according to CNN.
DHS representative Mia Ehrenberg added, “There is no valid basis to impeach Secretary Mayorkas, as senior members of the House majority have attested, and this extreme impeachment push is a harmful distraction from our critical national security priorities.”

The Senate will have to approve, and they probably will not, as they are mostly Democrat puppets.
mayorkas and most of the biden administration should be swinging by their necks in a public square.
Saying he’s impeached is one thing but actually seeing it happen is another. The losers are also “impeaching” Biden but has anyone seen any real action??? It’s been nothing but talk.
