Heidi Klum Turns Herself Into a Giant Severed Hand

Heidi Klum once again proved why she is known as the Queen of Halloween by arriving at her annual party in New York City transformed into a giant, grotesque severed human hand. The costume featured her face protruding from the bloody wrist area, dangling veins and tendons, oversized rings, and long red fingernails. The elaborate appearance marked the 25th anniversary of her annual “Heidiween” Halloween celebration, presented by Apothic Wines and Butterfinger.

Klum arrived at Cathédrale in a truck marked with red “danger” signs, escorted by people in full yellow protective suits. Hazmat-suited assistants also helped her on the red carpet.

The Costume Was Built From Klum’s Own Hand

Klum worked with special-effects artist Mike Marino and his ProRenFX team to create the bizarre look. They scanned her actual hand and used it to make an exact replica that included her engagement ring, wedding band, and a small finger tattoo. Her head sat in the center of the back of the hand near the severed wrist, surrounded by dripping fake blood, exposed tissue, and hanging sinews. Her legs became two of the fingers, creating the unsettling illusion that her body had been reshaped into one oversized limb.

Before the reveal, Klum had teased that the costume would be “very, very bloody” and would force her body into a shape no human normally occupies. The final creation delivered on those hints.

Weeks of Teasers Sent Everyone Guessing

For weeks, Klum released hints about the costume, leading most people to guess that she would appear as a character from The Substance. Those guesses were wrong. Klum told Vogue she wanted to take something ordinary—a hand—and turn it into something larger than life and bizarre.

The new creation joins a long list of high-concept costumes from the model, including a giant worm, a peacock, E.T., and last year’s Medusa. Her husband, Tom Kaulitz of Tokio Hotel, was absent from the party because he was on tour and had a show in Hamburg the following day.
