IRS Investigating Pelosi’s Political Endorsement at Tax-Exempt Library Event!

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is once again facing scrutiny for potentially violating IRS rules prohibiting nonprofits from engaging in political activity. This time, she may have crossed the line by endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris at a book tour stop in Baltimore. According to Republican Maryland Rep. Andy Harris, Pelosi’s visit to the Central Enoch Pratt Free Library on Thursday was no ordinary book tour event – it was a campaign rally for Harris.

During the appearance, Pelosi can be heard saying, “Kamala Harris should be elected president of the United States because she is the best person for the job.” This blatant endorsement of a political candidate at a nonprofit organization raises serious red flags, as the IRS clearly states that “contributions to political campaign funds or public statements of position (verbal or written) made on behalf of the organization in favor of or in opposition to any candidate for public office clearly violate the prohibition against political campaign activity.”

But Pelosi didn’t stop there. She also took the opportunity to criticize former President Donald Trump, stating, “It was awful. There can be no denying that this was an insurrection incited by the president of the United States.” This clear attempt to politicize the event and use it as a platform to attack her political opponents only adds to the list of violations.

To make matters worse, the Pratt Free Library, where the event took place, is a tax-exempt non-profit organization. This means that they are obligated to follow the same rules as any other nonprofit when it comes to engaging in political activity. These rules are in place for a reason – to prevent partisan politics from infiltrating organizations that are meant to serve the public and remain neutral.

But Pelosi seemed to be well aware of her mistake, even admitting at one point during the appearance, “I didn’t know we could talk politics.” This half-hearted acknowledgment only serves to highlight the level of hypocrisy displayed by Pelosi and the Pratt Library in violating these rules.

As Rep. Harris rightly points out in his letter to the Chairman of the House Committee on Ways and Means, endorsing and campaigning for political candidates at nonprofit organizations is strictly prohibited. Yet, both Pelosi and the Pratt Library seemed to have disregarded these rules, potentially putting their tax-exempt status in jeopardy.

It’s time for Pelosi and her allies to be held accountable for their actions. As a public official, she should know better than to use a nonprofit organization for her own political gain. And the Pratt Library, as a tax-exempt organization, should also be held accountable for its role in this violation. In fact, Rep. Harris has rightly called for an update on the library’s tax-exempt status.

It’s clear that Pelosi and her fellow Democrats will stop at nothing to push their political agenda and attack President Trump and his supporters. But we must hold them accountable and ensure that the rules are enforced equally for all. It’s time for the IRS to take action and remind Pelosi and other politicians that they are not above the law.
