It has been more than seven years since Donald Trump’s first year in office, and finally, Snopes, a leftist-leaning website claiming to be a “fact-checker,” has corrected the record. This website, which is often cited by the establishment media, somehow missed its chance to set the record straight about one of the most crucial events of Trump’s presidency. It is quite ridiculous that it has taken this long for Snopes to finally acknowledge the truth.
Snopes published a “fact check” on Thursday debunking the myth that Trump referred to neo-Nazis who staged a march in Charlottesville, Virginia, in 2017 as “very fine people.” In reality, Trump had said that there were “very fine people” on both sides of a heated debate over the future of Confederate statues. He clarified that he was not talking about neo-Nazis and white nationalists, as the media had unfairly treated those groups. This argument was available on a transcript published by Politico in August 2017, but Snopes chose to ignore it until now.
The website never explains why it waited seven years to tell the truth. It manufactured a news hook by citing social media posts in spring 2024, instead of addressing the fact they ignored this issue for seven years. This is yet another example of the media’s blatant bias, even for a website claiming to be objective.

Joe Biden, who announced his candidacy for the presidency in 2019, cited Trump’s supposed words in the first minutes of his campaign video, claiming that the events in Charlottesville had defined Trump’s presidency. However, this was a lie then, it was a lie when the media spread it in 2017, and it remains a lie now. No matter how Democrats use it, it will always be a lie. The only difference is that a major left-wing fact-checker has finally called it out.
Now, with the November election looming, this lie might not be entirely dead. It is worth asking: What is Biden’s rationale for a second term? Has he not done enough damage to the American people with his border disaster, rampant inflation, and foreign policies that have weakened national security and betrayed allied nations like Israel? It is time for Biden to leave the White House and for a competent leader to take over.
Charlottesville was just one of the many lies that have been spread about Trump by the liberal media. It is by far one of the worst and also the easiest to debunk. It is absurd and disappointing that it has taken Snopes this long to acknowledge the truth. But if voters are paying attention and this topic comes up in Thursday’s debate, it is better late than never.
It is time to expose and condemn the lies of the mainstream media and for the American people to choose a leader who will put their country first. The lies of the liberal media have had a detrimental impact on American society, and it is time to put an end to their deceitful tactics.
