The left is so quick to disregard progress made in the US—Ironic, considering they are the ones who are supposed to be ‘progressive’. Maybe what we are looking at here is the old Jim Crow party doing what they do best? Just a thought.
Recently, conservative powerhouse Candace Owens appeared on the ‘Dr. Phil’ show to talk about the issue of affirmative action. What she said blew the traditional liberal narrative out of the water and she wasn’t afraid to stand up for what she believes in.
Owens argued that affirmative action does not help the minorities it claims to assist, but instead can be damaging. She pointed out that even the smartest black Americans can end up on academic probation when they are artificially placed in positions they shouldn’t be in. This leads to politicians and administrators claiming victory for policies that only make people “feel good.”
Owens also argued that the premise behind affirmative action was degrading, in effect, claiming that minorities were incapable of achieving certain objectives without help from mostly white benefactors.
“No, it’s due to their intellectual capabilities, which is how students should be judged,” Owens said, adding that judging on merit is the real “equal policy,” for students, not affirmative action.
Dr. John Pascarella, professor and chief academic officer for the race and equity center at the University of Southern California, advocated for affirmative action specifically for “institutions that have historically excluded people of color.” But Owens was having none of it. She asked Pascarella how he could hold that viewpoint when she and others point to affirmative action being “factually, in effect, a bad thing for the black community.
Dr. J. Luke Wood, a professor at San Diego State University, pushed back on Owens’s comments, arguing that poor performance by affirmative action beneficiaries could be the result of their experiences at the institutions. Owens shot back: “You’re saying ‘could be,’ I’m giving you actual facts.” She went on to argue that it was a cultural problem, not an institutionalized policy.
At the end of the day, it is time to judge people based on merit and not on skin color. Candace Owens understands this and is not afraid to share her opinion. She is a conservative powerhouse and we should be thankful there are people like her who are willing to speak up and speak out against the liberal agenda.
Affirmative action is an outdated policy that is based on false premises. It does not help the minorities it claims to assist, but instead can be damaging. It is time to put an end to this policy and support people based on their merits, not the color of their skin. Let’s follow the lead of Candace Owens and start treating everyone equally.
