X Users Say Sudden Cash Surges Are Tying Up Tens of Thousands of Dollars

When “Free Money” Starts Flooding X

X users who have X Money turned on are waking up to unsolicited payments, with some reports reaching thousands and even tens of thousands of dollars. This is not part of X’s content rewards program. The money is tied to UsePaid, a project that pairs a Solana token with an X handle and sends creator fees to that account in regular U.S. dollars through X Money. Recipients do not have to sign up for the project, open a crypto wallet, or convert digital assets before seeing a payout. That convenience is also why some users initially wondered whether their accounts had been hacked.

The Trend Takes Off

The phenomenon went viral after Polymarket posted that users were being “financially DDOS’d” with unsolicited payments. The post passed two million views and drew more than 750 quotes, while replies filled with people asking to be targeted next.

Cassandra MacDonald joined the joke, asking someone to financially DDoS her so she could get a friend for one of her animals. Soon, @WhaletraderX replied, “you’ve been DDOSed,” and included the words “America Only,” a reference to MacDonald’s X bio. Replies followed, and MacDonald’s estimated payout climbed to nearly $500.

What UsePaid Is Actually Doing

UsePaid describes itself as a way to direct token fees to X users through X Money. The basic setup involves a meme coin launched on Solana. When people buy the token, creator fees are generated, and the project can redirect those fees to an X handle rather than requiring the recipient to claim them manually on a launch platform. The payment arrives in dollars through X Money.

Alex Lorusso, known on social media as @alx, said his token had taken off. He wrote that he initially thought the system was fake until it paid out, noting that the platform allows fees to be sent directly to users through X Money. That helps explain why the project is drawing attention from people who are not already familiar with crypto.

Why It Looks Like a Hack

Lorusso said payouts arrive roughly every 24 hours, although X Money rate limits can delay them when volume is high. He also said a similar concept called bags.fm existed last year, but users had to manually accept those fees. According to Lorusso, UsePaid is the first to use X Money for automatic payouts. That removes a step for people who do not already use crypto.

The payouts are real, according to recipients and Lorusso, but they are not a random giveaway from X. They are fees generated by meme-coin activity and routed to an X handle through UsePaid. The result is a crypto mechanism that can put dollars in front of users without requiring them to open a wallet.
