On CNN State of the Union, host and presidential debate co-moderator Jake Tapper tried to convince Senator Tom Cotton to support a legislative ban on bump stocks. The Supreme Court had recently repealed the ATF’s earlier administrative ban, and Tapper suggested that a legislative solution could be the answer. However, Cotton called out the left’s inconsistency in enforcing the law and criticized the Supreme Court for its decision.
In response to Tapper’s question, Cotton first addressed the bigger picture of the Supreme Court’s role in upholding the Constitution. He pointed out that Democrats like Chuck Schumer and Joe Biden often attack the Court for having a center-right majority, claiming that it makes “outcomes-based” decisions. However, the recent ruling on the bump stock ban, where six Republican-appointed justices reversed a Trump Administration regulation, demonstrates the opposite. The Court simply interpreted the text and meaning of the laws, as they are supposed to.
Cotton then shifted the focus to more pressing issues, such as cracking down on violent crime and gun-related offenses. He mentioned several bills he has introduced to extend sentences for gun felons, but the Democrats have not supported them. Cotton also emphasized the need to secure the border to prevent criminal aliens from entering the country. He mentioned the tragic case of Rachel Morin, a mother of five who was brutally murdered by an illegal alien with a history of violence. Despite this, Joe Biden is pushing for amnesty for over a million illegal immigrants, instead of addressing the problem of immigrant crime. Cotton argued that the government should prioritize these issues before considering any infringement on the rights of law-abiding citizens.
When Tapper asked if banning bump stocks would violate the Second Amendment, Cotton acknowledged that it could, depending on the language of the legislation. However, he stressed that it is more critical to address the root causes of crime in the country. He brought up the recent protests by pro-Hamas groups, where statues of American veterans were defaced and a law enforcement officer was injured. Despite their clear violation of the law, not a single arrest was made, highlighting the lack of seriousness in prosecuting violent crimes by the elected Democratic prosecutors.
Tapper’s line of questioning continued to touch on other familiar topics, such as Ukraine assistance, peaceful transfer of power, certifying election results, potential pardons for January 6th defendants, and vice presidential speculation. Cotton addressed these issues, but he always came back to the issue of law and order. He reiterated the need for a firm stance against violent crime and the importance of upholding the rule of law, condemning the lack of action in the face of blatant offenses by the left.
Senator Cotton’s interview with CNN State of the Union showed the media’s agenda to push for gun bans, rather than discussing the underlying issues at hand. Cotton emphasized that the government’s priority should be cracking down on violent crime and securing the border, rather than considering legislation that raises constitutional concerns. The media’s persistence in promoting certain agendas rather than objectively reporting the news highlights the need to address these biases and have open and honest discussions about the problems facing our country.
Tapper is just another clown from the Clown News Network and worthless to humanity.
Thanks Cotton, awesome
